Eliminate Form Spam with CAPTCHA
Incorporating Forms on Your Site? Got “CAPTCHA”?
If your website features any form, chances are you’ll inevitably encounter the nuisance of “form spam.”
This issue can manifest across various forms on your site—be it comments on blog posts, the Contact Us page form, inquiry forms, and so forth. Spammers employ what are known as “spambots,” which scour the internet for website hosting forms. Once a form is detected, these bots infiltrate and initiate spam transmissions. Their motivation lies in the belief that their submissions will be visible on a forum or platform, providing them with a space for their links. Non-forum or non-blog comment forms hold little interest for them, as they are unconcerned about those messages. Even if only a small fraction of these messages successfully penetrate the defences, it’s a victory for them.
Your business becomes a target for this form of spam assault. The content of these messages might need to be clarified or more concise. The influx could start at around 10 messages daily, escalating to 20, 50, or even more. This can be incredibly irritating.
Fortunately, a solution exists to tackle the vast majority—if not all—of these form spam attacks. It’s called a “CAPTCHA,” an acronym for “Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart,” though it’s commonly referred to simply as CAPTCHA. It requires users to input the characters and digits presented in an image, thereby demonstrating their human identity. CAPTCHA proves to be quite effective and has the potential to put an end to the intrusion of form spam.
Ensure that CAPTCHA has been properly installed
When we’re in the process of creating new website software for your needs, ensuring the incorporation of CAPTCHA is a crucial aspect. Moreover, if we’re integrating CAPTCHA into existing software on your website, it’s important to note that this process might extend the development timeline slightly. Nonetheless, the benefits of having CAPTCHA in place are substantial. This strategic implementation enhances your business’s productivity by mitigating and, ideally, eradicating such bothersome inconveniences.
